Certification Authority of Armenia

The certification authority is an organization that provides electronic digital signature certificates and other services related to electronic digital signatures; it also manages the life-cycle of certificates, including the issuance, cancellation, expiry and renewal of a certificate.

EKENG is the only accredited certification authority in Armenia. The current system of certification authorities was launched on the 28th of October, 2013. As a result of the implementation of this system the number of e-services has increased considerably because secure identification is a precondition for the development of electronic environments.

Goals

Ensuring confidentiality, integrity, authentication and non-repudiation.

Current status

RootCA (main certification authority) and CitizenCA (citizen certification authority) have been established and are available 24/7. The following service oriented protocols are also available:

  • CRL
  • OCSP
  • Time Stamp

A Must-Know

It is not possible to use state electronic services without activating one’s electronic signature. Electronic signatures can be activated by registering and paying through EKENG's online payment system or a bank transfer.

Results

There are about 1,000,000 certificates issued by the Certification Authority and about 80,000 active users. Currently a lot of services are provided with electronic signatures, particularly:

  • Tax Service of the RA
  • Electronic System of the State Cadastre
  • Electronic System of the Business Registry
  • Electronic Pension system
  • License Application system
  • eDocument workflow (Mullberry) system
  • Online Public Notice (azdarar.am)
